consists of Per Gessle and Marie Fredricksson, and
hail from Sweden. Considered one of hottest acts of
the late 80's to early 90's the band were never able
to tears itself away from the image that was ABBA.
Although this was the case, Roxette went on to bigger
things, with their simple pop beats, and well written
songs.
They
had hit after hit with it must have been love,
joyride, dangerous, and the look.

This package
is definitely all of the best that the Swedish Duo,
Roxette, gave us, with hit after hit crammed onto
this Greatest hits album. From the look to it must
have been love to dangerous. Add to that two new tracks
with she doesn’t live here anymore and I don’t
want to get hurt, and you have a killer of a collection.
Per Gessle
writing talents and Marie Fredriksson’s superb
vocals were what made the famous a big hit on the
90’s, and it seemed like they could do nothing
wrong. They not only had a hit in their own country,
but all over the world people were clamoring to hear
the new band out of Sweden.
Their song, it must have been love, featured in Pretty
Woman, and another almost unreal found itself on the
Super Mario Bros soundtrack.
The two of them as a duo worked well together, although
Per did seem to eventually try and sing more. He had
an okay voice, but the voice of the band was indeed
Marie Fredricksson.
Even listening
to the songs now, there isn’t one of them I
hate or could even pretend to loathe. They’re
cleverly written, and have a great beat, that has
stood the age of time.
Who can forget the great beats of dressed for success,
joyride, dangerous, or June afternoon. Nor could we
forget about the poignancy of some of their more heartfelt
tracks such as it must have been love, and spending
my time. They’re all gems in their own right.
If you
want to hear a band that can actually sing, with intelligently
written lyrics, and don’t reek of a bubblegum
era, then Roxette possibly are the band for you.
After
all these years, their music is still as potent as
ever. I give it 4/5
