A
somewhat different compilation album compared to the
other Greatest Hits albums that Queen have put out,
and one that can be considered slightly heavier.
With tracks such as Hammer to fall, We will rock you,
tie your mother down and stone cold crazy, it is a chance
for Queen to display a variety of different tunes that
not only show their heavier side but also their diversity.
I honestly like the first half of this album, but then
found that the last half of it lacked somewhat. Having
said that the two final tracks “It’s late”
and the new single “No one but you”, which
was obviously written about Freddie Mercury, are pure
winners.
But this album is still pure Queen magic, and an example
through guitar and vocals that nothing Queen ever did
was simple.
If you want to hear a heavier, more diverse side of
Queen instead of the usual commercial songs like Bohemian
Rhapsody than this is the album for you.
Must listen to tracks include: Fat bottomed girls, tie
your mother down, seven seas of rhye, now I’m
here, It’s late and no-one but you.
No-one but you is a beautiful tribute to Freddie Mercury,
and it is a thrill to hear other members of Queen sing.
I’ve always like Brian May’s vocals, and
they are as strong as ever on this song.
I think that something that is always missed about Queen,
is that while Freddie Mercury was the obvious stageman
of the band, many do not realise that Bryan May and
Roger Taylor were two of the main lyricists behind the
band. Brian May wrote many of Queen’s songs, and
this album is a testimonial to these.
