Year: 2001
Summary:

Russell Coight is arguably Australia’s most experienced outback adventurer and in this unique video collection he proves it in some of the most remote and beautiful parts of the country. Travel with Russell through the heart of the Red Centre, (‘a land as old as time, it not older’), to the tip of Cape York, (‘where there are fewer people per head than just about anywhere else in the world where there are people’), as he sets out to explore this magnificent country.
Whether it’s the world heritage-listed Daintree rain forest or the majestic High Country of south eastern Australia, Russell’s tackled it - and generally at high speed. Learn about bush tucker, outback survival, aboriginal history and off-road driving from a bloke who’s done it all. So what are we waiting for? Let’s get crackin’ on another All Aussie Adventure!

Review by David Griffiths

Relax ladies and gentlemen who have never seen this program. Russell Coight is not real, he is a figment of imagination from the Working Dog Production Crew.
‘All Aussie Adventures’ is a hilarious comedy that parodies the so-called ‘outback experts’ that we Australians have had to endure for years.
There is a little piece of Alby Mangels and Steve Irwin in Russell Coight, who can simply be described as a bumbling idiot who knows nothing about the Australian bush... well apart from how to destroy it.
Although only 6 episodes long, this the first season seems too long. There are lulls of comedy in some episodes, with gags that you just simply groan at. But don’t be discouraged there are times in this series where the humour is brilliant, although very Australian.
You should watch this if you liked Working Dog Productions’s previous work with ‘Frontline’ and ‘The Late Show’.
Extras on DVD/Video: Some good stuff. There are plenty of gags that found there way onto the editing room’s floor (some are funnier than the ones in the actual show). There is also Russell’s interview with talk-show host Rove MacManus.
Rating: 3/5. Good comedy that wanes occasionally.

1.01 RED CENTRE PART ONE

Review by David Griffiths

Gst Stars: Nil
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glen Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:
Russell gets the call to attend his ‘mates’ cattle muster and he has to drive across Australia to get there. On his journey across Australia he shows us how to find bush tucker that isn’t there, manages to kill a cow, almost sets fire to himself and manages to burn his 4WD.

Review:
A funny pilot that will leave anyone outside Australia thinking... is this guy for real? All up this episode shows you what you are going to get, a down-to-earth Aussie comedy.
Stand Out
Moments: Russell getting hooked in the face while fishing and Russell managing to kill an echidna while showing us how to protect them.
Rating: 3/5. Australian satire comedy at it’s best.

1.02 RED CENTRE PART TWO

By David Griffiths

Gst Stars: Nil.
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glenn Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:
Russell Coight continues on his way to his mates’ castle muster. On the way he unsuccessfully tries to pick up a girl from Alice Springs who proves to be a nightmare for him to travel with. He also tries to help other drivers an gets bogged himself. There is a touching moment as Russell scatters the ashes of an old friend.

Review:
The show continues on with an episode that seems to be aimed directly at another Aussie icon Alby Mangels. Mangels also used to manage to take beautiful women on his trips with him, something that Coight manages here. The problem with this episode is that younger views that don’t know who Alby Mangels is would be completely lost by the humour.
Stand Out Moments:
Russell water skiing into a tree and then later on managing to whip a young boy in the face.
Rating: 3/5. The humour continues on at a steady pace.

1.03 DAINTREE

by David Griffths

Gst Stars: Nil
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glenn Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:
Russell heads to far north Queensland in a bid show the audience the fragile Daintree Rainforest which is apparently fun to 4WD through. On the journey he shows us how to kill bush pig, outrun a bushfire, care for a wombat and then manages to tag his own penis. He also introduces us to an endangered wallaby, which he manages to kill and then tries his hand at crocodile hunting.

Review:
The humour really picks up this episode in a way that makes the show unpredictably. Just when you’re expecting him to accidentally kill the wombat he ends up tagging his penis. Also great to see somebody poking fun at Steve Irwin, about time somebody did.
Stand Out Moments:
Russell kayaking into rocks and him later on getting hit by a coconut while he teaches us how to find bush tucker.
Rating: 3/5. A good episode, but again an episode that people outside Australia may struggle with the humour of. The whole Steven Irwin gag would work for overseas viewers, but the joke about the kayaking Solo man is lost on anybody that hasn’t seen the ad.

1.04 HIGH COUNTRY PART ONE

By David Griffiths

Gst Stars: Philip Jenkins, Justin Meadows, Hayley Roberts
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glenn Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:
Russell Coight decides to take three ‘city kids’ up to the High Country, which has been made famous by the legend of ‘The Man From Snowy River’. On the trip the kids manage to discover Russell’s porn stash and introduce him to marijuana. He in return teaches them how Ned Kelly was hunted down by mounties and how to blow up a cattleman’s hut.

Review:
This series reaches it’s peaks. A great episode which makes fun of the Ray Martin’s of this world who tend to think that city teenagers only roam the streets committing crimes. Even the small gags in this episode are downright funny. There are no lulls and I found myself laughing out loud in some parts.
Stand Out Moments:
Russell shooting a sheep when he mistakes it for a... fox!
Rating: 4/5. This episode and it’s sequel are definitely the pick of the season.

1.05 HIGH COUNTRY PART TWO

By David Griffiths

Gst Stars: Philip Jenkins, Justin Meadows, Hayley Roberts
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glenn Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:
Russell Coight continues to show the city teenagers the High Country. He manages to teach them how to blow up your car’s engine while lighting a fire. He then takes them to a pub and also squashes a bandicoot. Oh yeah... he also teaches them how to shoot a gun.

Review:

Definitely the funniest episode of the season. It is a laugh-a-minute. Glenn Robbins interacts well with the teenagers and it shows that he is a genuinely funny actor. A heap better than Will Ferrell will ever be.
Stand Out Moments: Russell teaching the kids how to fire a gun only to have them turn the gun on him and shoot at him.
Rating: 4/5. Pick of the season.

1.06 COOKTOWN

by David Griffiths

Gst Stars: Joselt Bradley, Leslie Andrews, Owen Rankine, Jody Rankine, Ralph Ellington, Peter Fooks, Neville Armstrong, Leonard Tataro, Estelle Fooks, Brian Campbell, Vikki Campbell, Micheline Campbell, Lucy Campbell, Steven Simpson, Catherine Cadyre, Sally Cadyre, Madeline Shins, Clare Scott, Darren Bakker, Stephanie Bakker, Rebecca McMilliam, Alice Johnstone, Chris Johnstone, Zoe Brinkley, Ray Brinkley, Adele Clark, Helen Clark, Ashleigh Robinson, Marie Robinson, Mark Calvert-Jones, Louise Calvert-Jones, Paddy Calvert-Jones, James Calvert-Jones, William Calvert-Jones, Andrew Calvert-Jones, Anthony Moore, Carol Moore, Jamie Andrews, Peter Andrews, David Andrews, Lisa Davies, Lawson Hubbard, Jennifer Pollard, Grant Pollard, Jessica Pollard, Hannah Dolling, Prudence Officer, Rolf Karen, Joy Karen, Janene Easan, John Easan, Henry Easan, Tracy Joyce, Paul Riley, Don Cummins, Pamela Cummins, Elke Cummins, Margaret Twycross, Liam Twycross, Penny Murphy, Liam Bradley, Josette Bradley, Finton Bradley, Fionnuala Bradley
Director: Tom Gleisner
Writer: Tom Gleisner, Glenn Robbins, Santo Cilauro

Summary:

Russell Coight travels to Cooktown as he rushes to attend a relative’s wedding. On the way there he manages to blow-up an English tourists car and expose him to a group of school children. He also starts a major bushfire, demolishes a historic house and goes barramundi fishing with disastrous results.

Review:

This is the episode that really wanes. The whole fishing section seems to drag on with very little humour. This is the episode that should never have been.
Stand Out Moments: Russell arriving at the wedding and destroying it.

Rating: 2/5. The season could have done without this episode and all it managed to do was be a sour note to an otherwise could season one.
